Simon Ward
Simon Ward is a British ceramic artist whose work explores themes of memory, history, and reinvention. Based in Lundin Links, Fife, he creates imaginative sculptural assemblages using fragments of discarded and broken ceramics, often incorporating traditional blue and white willow patterns, old tiles, and timeworn ornaments. His work celebrates the overlooked and the forgotten, recontextualising these fragments into new forms that are both playful and poignant.
Ward’s process is rooted in discovery and improvisation. Each piece begins with the gathering of ceramic remnants, which he selects for their aesthetic and narrative potential. These elements are then transformed into complex compositions—populated by birds, fish, and mythical creatures—that hover between the familiar and the fantastical. His work carries a strong sense of storytelling, often laced with humour and cultural curiosity.
By breathing new life into once-broken or discarded items, Ward reimagines the everyday as something rich with possibility. His pieces challenge traditional notions of value and beauty, encouraging viewers to look closer at the fragments of the past and the meanings they might still hold.
Ward has exhibited widely across the United Kingdom and internationally. His work is held in numerous private collections, reflecting a growing appreciation for his distinctive and imaginative approach to contemporary ceramics. He is also an active member of the Central Fife Artists' Collective and continues to contribute to the region’s vibrant artistic community.
Simon Ward’s ceramics are thoughtful, inventive, and deeply engaging—inviting us to reconsider the stories we inherit, and how we might reshape them through art.
