Rosalind Robinson RWA SWA is a British figurative painter whose work explores portraiture, human relationships and the emotional significance of the direct gaze. Her paintings often suggest ambiguous narratives, inviting the viewer to consider the identity of her subjects and their relationship to a particular time and place.

Drawing from life is central to Robinson’s practice, with paintings frequently developing from studies of friends, family and professional models. Her work is influenced by the traditions of early Netherlandish portraiture, particularly artists such as Hans Memling and Lucas Cranach the Elder.

Robinson studied Fine Art at Hornsey College of Art and Waltham Forest School of Art from 1968 to 1972. She subsequently trained as a scenic artist at BBC Television Centre and pursued a long career as a mural painter before concentrating increasingly on studio painting and drawing from 2010.

She was elected a member of the Society of Women Artists in 2018 and an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy in 2020.
