Richard Pikesley PPNEAC RWS is a British painter whose work is rooted in direct observation and a fascination with landscape, light and changing weather. Working in both oil and watercolour, he is particularly interested in finding painterly equivalents for the fleeting effects of light and space.

Based on the Dorset coast, Pikesley frequently works outdoors, responding quickly to a particular effect of sunlight, cloud or atmosphere. These immediate studies may remain as finished works or become the starting point for larger paintings, developed through further drawing and repeated observation.

Born in London in 1951, Pikesley studied at Harrow School of Art and Canterbury College of Art before training as an art teacher at the University of London Institute of Education.

He was elected to the New English Art Club in 1974 and served as its President from 2013 to 2018. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1997 and became a full member in 2001.
