PJ Crook MBE RWA FRSA is a British painter whose distinctive figurative works explore people, society and the strangeness of everyday life. Crowds are a recurring subject, alongside themes drawn from family, mythology, current events and the natural world.

Working largely from memory, imagination and the subconscious rather than photographs or direct observation, Crook creates densely populated scenes that move between familiar reality and surreal, dreamlike experience. Her compositions frequently extend beyond the conventional picture plane, continuing across painted frames or onto corrugated and three-dimensional surfaces.

 Born in 1945, Crook studied at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design from 1960 to 1965. She has exhibited internationally throughout a career spanning more than five decades, with solo exhibitions in Britain, France, the United States, Canada and Japan.

 Crook is an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She was appointed MBE for services to art in 2011.
