Peter Wileman is a highly regarded British painter whose work is driven by a fascination with light, colour and atmosphere. For Wileman, painting is an essential part of daily life, and his practice centres on the challenge of capturing the fleeting effects of light across landscape, sea and sky.

Working predominantly in oils, his paintings are bold and vigorous in both their handling of paint and use of colour. He is particularly drawn to the shifting light of dawn and sunset, and to the reflections and movement found across rivers and the sea. His work ranges through varying degrees of abstraction, seeking not simply to describe a place, but to convey its atmosphere and the emotional impact of light within it.

Wileman has worked in art and design for more than forty years. He is a former President and Fellow of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, a Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Frank Herring Award, the Cornelissen & Son Award, the Clerc Fowle Gold Medal, the DAS Prize, the Charles Pears Award, the Dartington Crystal Chalice and the Stanley Grimm Prize, which he has won twice.
