Ong Jian Yang

Ong Jian Yang, born 1996, currently resides in Taiping, Introduced to watercolours at the age of eight by artist Liau Sin Fah, he embarked on a journey of self-learning after completing high school. His dedication to refining his skills was further cultivated during his Architecture degree, where he gained valuable insight into the design process, enabling him to create compelling compositions for various visual concepts.

Jian Yang believes that creativity is an ongoing process and the strength of a piece lies in its composition. “Analyse the information in front of you and plan the composition. Every subject matter can excel if the composition is meticulously crafted. Composition is king!” Continuously exploring new artistic concepts and subject matters, Jian Yang is currently intrigued by the lotus pond. “I find beauty in its abstraction, forms, and complexity, which is also found in still life and 
portraiture.”

With a profound interest in Chinese calligraphy, Jian Yang has been honing his skills for many years. This passion has influenced his brushstroke expression in watercolor, with fellow artists often noting that his works capture the essence of oriental aesthetics.
