Mary Jackson NEAC RWS is a British painter whose work encompasses landscape, still life and the figure. Working in both oil and watercolour, her paintings are characterised by a particular sensitivity to light, tone and atmosphere

Working away from the studio has always been an important part of Jackson’s practice. She draws and paints directly from her surroundings, gathering observations and ideas which are later developed in the studio. Travel has provided a rich source of subjects throughout her career, from landscapes and coastal scenes to interiors and figures.

Jackson studied printmaking at Southampton and Winchester College of Art from 1978 to 1983. She was elected a member of the New English Art Club in 1987 and the Royal Watercolour Society in 1995.

Among the highlights of her career are periods as Artist in Residence at Glyndebourne, Garsington and English National Opera, as well as five sailing journeys through the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, which she recorded as artist aboard the yacht Tilting at Windmills.
