Louisa Tebbutt

Louisa Tebbutt is a UK-based artist whose practice spans painting, drawing and mixed media. Her work is defined by a strong engagement with surface and material, most notably through the use of oxidised steel as a support. By grinding back, scraping and revealing layers beneath the surface, she allows natural processes to play an active role in the development of each piece, creating works that are rich in texture and visual depth.

Alongside these steel works, Tebbutt produces watercolour portraits that offer a more fluid and intimate counterpoint to her materially driven practice. Across both strands of her work, there is a clear tension between control and chance, with the artist responding intuitively to the marks and traces that emerge through process.

Tebbutt has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally and her work is held in private and corporate collections. She has received several awards and has been selected for major exhibitions and projects, reflecting the distinctive and experimental nature of her practice.
