Jonathan Shearer

Jonathan Lyle Shearer was educated at Grays School of Art, Robert Gordons University, Aberdeen where he obtained a BA (Hons) in Painting and Drawing (1989-1993). He also studied at Cyprus College of Art obtaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Painting and Drawing (1995-1996). He lives in Ross-shire north of Inverness.

‘Through a process of walking, drawing and painting directly in the Highland landscape and working repeatedly in different places chosen and revisited many times, Jonathan has developed an intimate connection with the wild places of Scotland.’

"My paintings are concerned with trying to convey the sensation of being immersed in the landscape, the wind in your face, the soft bogginess of the moor beneath your feet, the clouds enveloping the mountain, the sheer exhilaration of wild places.”

Jonathan has been accredited with numerous awards including the John Kinross Scholarship to Florence - Royal Scottish Academy and the Sir Robin Phillipson Memorial Medal - Royal Scottish Academy – both whilst studying at Grays School of Art. He exhibits extensively, although mainly in Scotland.
