Jean Robinson RI
Jean Robinson, born and educated in Cardiff, is a semi-abstract painter using watercolours, acrylics, inks and collage. Her intuitive artwork emerges from remembered images and shapes, often sparked by colour. Her travels and the Welsh countryside, coastal scenes, and hill towns frequently influence her work.
Robinson enjoys the uncertainty of her process, starting without a set outcome and letting her paintings evolve. Music accompanies her sessions, with jazz and rock enhancing bold works and classical music guiding more mellow pieces.
Jean studied music and history in Nottingham before training as a teacher and teaching for many years. She has facilitated art workshops for talented schoolchildren and developed her experimental painting approach through classes with Mike Bernard RI since 1987.
A long-time member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI), Jean has served on the council and as Exhibition Secretary. She has exhibited widely across the UK, including the Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery in London, as well as in various group and solo exhibitions domestically and internationally.
