Jean Noble RI SWA

Jean Noble RI SWA is an abstract painter fascinated by the boundary between representation and abstraction. Inspired by the Canary Wharf area along the Thames, she has explored this region for the past 20 years. Noble starts her creative process on-site, absorbing her surroundings and beginning with an initial sketch.

In her studio, Noble transforms these sketches into paintings, responding intuitively to changes in colour and shape. She captures the contrast between the towering glass buildings and the dynamic Thames, with its houseboats and ferries. Her work evolves through continual change, reflecting her intuitive approach to colour and composition.

Noble studied at Loughborough College of Art, Kingston University, and took courses at Central St Martins and The Slade. She is a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Society of Women Artists, and the Chelsea Art Society. She has received numerous awards, including The Royal Society of Arts and Design Award, The Lady Laming Award for Abstract Art, and The Barbara Tate Memorial Award.
