Ian Sidaway RI

 

Born in 1951 in Staffordshire, Ian Sidaway, from a family of miners and clay workers, pursued graphic design at Twickenham College of Technology. After a brief stint in advertising, he followed his true passion for painting in the early 1970s, supporting himself with various jobs.

Initially focusing on commissioned portraits in the 1980s, Ian transitioned to book illustration in the 1990s, covering travel, food, and gardening. He authored and illustrated over 30 books and contributed to various magazines. He also taught summer painting workshops in Tuscany and Venice.

In recent years, Ian has focused on landscapes, both in the UK and internationally, using traditional transparent watercolour techniques and diverse tools. He creates his work from his studio in West London.

Elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 2010, Ian's work, characterised by strong design and solid draughtsmanship, evokes a sense of place and continues to inspire collectors worldwide.
