Francis Bowyer PPRWS NEAC
Francis Bowyer PPRWS NEAC is a British painter whose work is characterised by a strong sensitivity to light, colour and atmosphere. His subjects range from landscapes and coastal scenes to interiors and still lifes, often returning to familiar places that he has drawn and painted over many years.
The Suffolk coast, particularly Walberswick and the surrounding landscape, has been an enduring source of inspiration. Bowyer is interested in the way repeated observation allows a subject to reveal new possibilities, with changing light and weather continually reshaping his response to a place.
Born in London in 1952, Bowyer studied Fine Art at St Martin’s School of Art before continuing his studies at Chelsea School of Art. He was elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 1991 and served as its President from 2000 to 2003. He became a member of the New English Art Club in 1992 and has also taught drawing and painting at the Royal Academy Schools.
