Francesca Owen
Based in Cornwall, award-winning painter Francesca Owen creates luscious landscape and still life paintings using impasto application and a rich palette, combining natural pigments and traditional oil paints.
Francesca studied Fine Art at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, where she was awarded two scholarships including the Euan Uglow memorial scholarship. After graduating she travelled to India and Southeast Asia, completing a residency at the Living Crafts Centre in Laos specialising in textiles and dyes and learning techniques from a tribe living on the Mekong Delta. Here she explored the use of natural colour. Francesca went on to study for an MA in Art & Environment at Falmouth University.
Working outside, exploring and gathering pigments from the landscape helps Francesca connect with the natural world and notice her surroundings in a deeper way. Her paintings are not literal but rooted in feeling.
