Deborah Walker RI RSMA
Deborah Walker is an internationally recognised artist whose work is in private collections across the UK, Japan, Germany, France, New Zealand, Australia, and Finland. Deborah articulates that her artistic process, fundamentally rooted in the act of drawing, aims to forge a language through drawing and painting that conveys feelings and emotional responses. Her paintings predominantly feature landscapes, focusing on both expansive scenes and intricate details to showcase how light shifts perceptions. She skilfully blends representational and abstract elements in her watercolour techniques, challenging the traditional boundaries of the medium.
Since earning her first-class Honours degree in Fine Art in 1996, Deborah has been actively teaching drawing and watercolour in one-day workshops. The art community has recognised her expertise with several prestigious memberships, including her induction into the Royal Society of Arts in 2002, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2006, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 2011. In the RI, she has taken on various roles such as Steward for the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution, Council Member, and Friends Secretary.
