Dawn Benson

Dawn attended Twickenham College of Technology where she studied an art foundation course and graphic design. After 20 years as a graphic designer, she attended Richmond Adult Education College where she was taught by Geraldine Knight, Stan Smith and Avril Vellacot. Painting and jewellery making were her focus before she moved into sculpture.

Her sculptures are all about relationships, whether between horse and rider or between people. She was initially inspired by horses when observing her niece on her pony, hugging her pony with all her might. A tiny child on a big creature but total trust between them. Dawn used to ride, so her love of horses and understanding of their anatomy started her sculpting career. The extra long legs of the horse created from the perspective of the child makes her work instantly recognisable.

Dawn has been sculpting for 25 years and works in bronze.
