David Williams-Bulkeley

David Williams-Bulkeley is a British painter known for his quietly luminous still-life and figurative works in oil. Working entirely from life, he brings a classical sensibility to contemporary painting, capturing the subtle interplay of light, form and surface with exceptional technical skill.

Having spent several years in the United States, where he exhibited widely and was associated with the Guild of Boston Artists, Williams-Bulkeley is now based in the UK. He paints directly in front of his subjects—often simple, everyday objects such as bread, lemons, or eggs—rendering them with clarity, sensitivity and a painter’s eye for atmosphere. His still-life works are grounded in close observation, and yet they carry a poetic charge, evoking time, stillness and presence.

David’s work has been exhibited at the Mall Galleries, with institutions such as the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the New English Art Club, and in solo and group exhibitions across the UK and the US. His first UK solo exhibition was a sell-out show, with much of the paintings reserved before opening.

Williams-Bulkeley’s dedication to traditional oil painting, paired with his ability to elevate the everyday through light and texture, marks him as a significant voice in contemporary realist painting.
