Carina Ekdahl Prigmore is a Swedish-born artist based in the Scottish Highlands. Born in Gothenburg in 1973, she has lived in Scotland since 2001 and is now based in the Cairngorms National Park, whose landscape provides a constant source of inspiration for her work.

Carina’s atmospheric landscape paintings explore the changing light, weather and character of the natural world. Direct observation forms the foundation of her practice, while memories and impressions of particular places also play an important role. Her Scandinavian roots remain an influence, alongside the mountains, forests and open landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.

Working predominantly in acrylic, Carina builds her paintings through layers of colour and expressive mark-making, creating images that balance energy with a distinctive sense of softness and tranquillity. Her winter landscapes in particular capture the muted light, mist and subtle shifts of colour characteristic of the Cairngorms.

Carina studied Art & Design at the University of Wales, Cardiff, before graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Conservation Biology from the University of Aberdeen in 2006. Her close engagement with the natural environment continues to inform her work as a painter.

She has exhibited widely throughout the UK, including at the Mall Galleries in London, and her work has also been shown internationally. In 2018 she presented her first solo exhibition, Following the Seasons, at Frames Gallery in Perth.
