Anthony Barber was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1962 and studied Architecture and Design to postgraduate level in West Yorkshire. During this time, he began sketching and painting both in Yorkshire and along Scotland’s west coast and islands.

In 1994, Barber moved to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, where he now lives and works full time from his studio gallery overlooking the harbour and beach at Port of Ness.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Barber draws inspiration from the landscapes and seascapes of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, particularly the West Coast and Hebrides. His paintings respond to the constantly shifting light, weather and atmosphere of the islands, with a distinctive focus on colour, sea and sky.

His work has been selected for exhibitions with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) and the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) in Edinburgh, as well as the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) and Discerning Eye exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London.

Barber’s paintings are held in private collections throughout the UK, Europe, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
