Andrew Hazelden

Andrew studied ceramics at the Epsom School of Art and Design, and worked with renowned ceramicists Mary Wondrausch and Alan Caiger-Smith. He learned the technique of tin-glaze earthenware and reduction-fired lustre at Aldermaston Pottery in Berkshire, joining in 1984.

He uses a blend of Italian Deruta and Spencroft clay, hand-painting oxides onto the tin glaze in the Maiolica tradition.

Andrew also produces reduction-fired lustreware, using silver and copper paste. This technique requires a reduction in oxygen during firing to create an iridescent surface.

Andrew regularly teaches at Hewins Wood.
