Alison Groom

Alison Groom is a UK-based painter whose work is grounded in landscape and water, shaped by a close attention to light, colour and surface. Working from her London studio, she draws inspiration from both urban and coastal environments, including the Thames, London’s bridges, and the coastlines of Cornwall, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

Her paintings develop through a layered process, beginning with textured acrylic grounds and building towards successive passages of oil paint. This gradual accumulation allows colour and light to surface slowly, giving the work a strong physical presence alongside a quiet sense of atmosphere. Subtle shifts in light- particularly at dawn, dusk and twilight- are central to her compositions, influencing both mood and structure.

Balancing vibrancy with restraint, Groom’s paintings invite sustained attention and reward close looking. Her work is held in private collections in the UK and internationally.
