Working in both oil and watercolour, he is particularly interested in finding painterly equivalents for the fleeting effects of light and space.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBased on the Dorset coast, Pikesley frequently works outdoors, responding quickly to a particular effect of sunlight, cloud or atmosphere. These immediate studies may remain as finished works or become the starting point for larger paintings, developed through further drawing and repeated observation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBorn in London in 1951, Pikesley studied at Harrow School of Art and Canterbury College of Art before training as an art teacher at the University of London Institute of Education.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHe was elected to the New English Art Club in 1974 and served as its President from 2013 to 2018.
