Working primarily in oil, his paintings are distinguished by a strong sense of colour, atmosphere and carefully balanced composition.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHis subjects range from rural landscapes and coastal scenes to gardens, interiors and still life, often treated on an intimate scale. Paul responds closely to changing light and season, using a direct and economical approach to capture the essential character of a scene.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBorn in Chelsea, London in 1940, Paul studied at Camberwell School of Art from 1956 to 1959.
