Helen Fryer

Born and raised in Cumbria, Helen studied Geography at the University of Manchester and went on to live in various parts of the UK. During this time Helen's passion for painting became her primary focus, alongside exploring landscapes in a more physical sense; sailing (getting as far as St Kilda), cycling (including from Lands End to John O’Groats) and also bagging all the Munros. She currently lives and works in High Ireby, Cumbria.

Helen's work is inspired by the many landscapes she has explored from grand vistas to the bijou beauty of a seemingly inconsequential hedge. She sees great value in the texture and minutiae of a place, balancing ethereal lighting with rugged terrain and grounding her work with an earthy familiarity.
