Mark Holden

Born in Glasgow in 1962. Educated at Edinburgh University.

Mark’s passion for art started at school where he developed his drawing and painting techniques.  However, due to other subject choices at university and an initial career in Sales and Marketing, he did not become a professional artist for some years.

Mark constantly maintained his love of art, developing a keen interest in photography.  From his success with this he progressed to painting, eventually becoming a full-time artist 7 years ago.

Mark is based near St Andrews in Fife on the east coast of Scotland.  He paints exclusively in oil using both brush and palette knife to create his work.

His subject matter is wide-ranging but his scenes depicting Scottish seascapes, the Fife coastline, Scottish fishing harbours and Venetian scenes are particularly popular.

One of his favourite subjects is ‘West Sands’ the stunning beach at St Andrews, where his painting career started.

Mark has undertaken numerous commissions, the most recent being for the
St Andrews Links Trust, producing a painting for the clubhouse of the new Castle Course.
